1How can Leapfrogs help your child?
After an initial observations of your child, Leapfrogs will involve relevant members within our three teams of professional therapists to discuss about the intervention plan best suited for your child.
Occupational Therapists will often be the first professional to work with your child if he/she shows delays in mastering typical activities such as gross or fine motor activities, play, self-care, or displays behavioral concerns. These delays may be tell-tale signs that your child is challenged in the following areas: sensory processing, especially tactile (sense of touch), vestibular (sense of movement), and proprioceptive (sense of body position) which are important building blocks for learning. Our occupational therapists will help your child organize and process sensory information in order to have a more accurate response to external stimuli.
Educational Therapists will work on the underlying causes of your child’s learning difficulties, rather than simply treating the symptoms as tutoring programs frequently do. An educational therapist will target cognitive skills such as memory, attention, information processing, critical thinking, and literacy, as well as social and emotional skills to help your child become a self-reliant and efficient learner.
Speech & Language Therapists will help your child understand what other people say, produce speech sounds, and use spoken language to communicate. Children with speech and language problems are often at risk for difficulties in reading and understanding complex language in social and school settings. Uncorrected, these challenges will have a profound and negative lasting effect on your child’s social and emotional development as well as school performance. Speech & Language Therapists will also help your child understand non-verbal language such as eye contact, gestures, tone, and written language, to express his/her thoughts, needs, feelings, questions and answers, so that learning and communication will be more effective and meaningful. A Speech & Language Therapist can also help fussy eaters and those who lack the oral-motor skills needed for feeding and speech.

3What to bring during the initial consult?
Make sure to bring relevant reports and documents regarding your child. To ease the child into the session, we strongly suggest bringing your child’s favourite toy or book as this can also be used by the consultant to facilitate interaction with your child.
4What to expect during the initial consult?
It’s an hour long consult that is conducted in three phases:
1. Parents Discussion: the aim is to know about your concerns for your child and to also get pertinent information that would help us better assess your child’s difficulties/challenges.
2. Child Observation : a direct interaction with your child by conducting activities to get an initial impression of your child in possibly the following areas:
a. Physical development – review fine and gross motor skills necessary for learning activities
b. Speech and Language Development – ability to understand and use language for communication and learning
c. Cognitive Development - ability to learn and solve problems
d. Social and Emotional Development - interacting with others and self-control
3. Recommendation: Based on the discussion with parents and observation of the child, we will identify the appropriate intervention program and frequency of intervention that will best address your child’s needs. Should there be any need for your child to be referred to other professionals for further testing or consult, we will do so during this phase or when the need arises.

1What should parents do now?
The initial consultation therapist will discuss the findings and recommendations pertaining to the type and frequency of therapy needed. If needed, additional members within our three teams of professional therapists will discuss the intervention plan best suited for your child. The next crucial step, if therapy is recommended, is booking the therapy sessions as soon as possible because timely intervention is of utmost importance to improve outcomes.
2How long does the child need therapy?
The length of therapy varies from child to child because it is highly dependent on a number of factors such as child’s level of learning potential and difficulties, frequency of attendance, and follow up at home.
3Why is intensity important in therapy?
Children need consistent and frequent experiences to build the foundations upon which sensory, cognitive and language skills are developed for success in learning. Research shows that high quality intervention services and intensity can change a child’s developmental trajectory and improve outcomes for children and their families.
1What can parents do to help?
We strongly encourage a close follow up of home practices recommended by the therapist and frequent discussions with the therapist. Building a strong parent-therapist partnership is the most effective method to realize the benefits of therapy for the child.

3What if therapy sessions fall on a public holiday?
We are closed on public holidays and breaks which are specified in the Centre’s year calendar.
4What happens when the therapist is unwell or on leave?
You will be notified as soon as possible. The session missed may be carried over by an equally competent therapist, re-scheduled on another day or credited for the next month.
We usually recommend that the child sees another therapist for continuity of the program (i.e. no sessions missed). It helps in checking for generalization of skill and promoting of adaptability given new situation/people. It also provides an opportunity to have a fresh look of your child’s development and challenges.
